I'm a composer based in the north of the UK, creating music shaped by evolving patterns and gradual transformation. My work often combines tightly structured processes with a physical, rhythmic energy and layered textures. Much of it is developed with the aid of a custom software system I’ve built, which uses algorithmic processes to generate and shape the musical material over time.
I completed a PhD in Composition at the University of Manchester in 2009, studying with Dr Kevin Malone, whose eclectic and socially engaged approach to composition helped shape my own creative outlook. During this time, I developed my interest in process-driven music and began integrating custom-built software into my compositional practice. I have retained a strong interest in academic research, which continues to inform my music technically and aesthetically.
My aim is to create music that feels both dynamic and rigorously constructed—where underlying systems subtly reveal themselves, drawing the listener in, while the logic remains intriguingly just out of reach.
I’m keen to connect with soloists or ensembles who are interested in working together on new music. Whether you have a specific idea in mind or just want to explore possibilities, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch via the email below.
