Peter Griffin is a composer living and working in the Northwest of England. He has studied with Paul Max Edlin, and for four years with Kevin Malone. He is an active member of the North West New Music Projects as an executive committee member and is employed at the University of Manchester as a part time teaching assistant.
His work embraces all styles and influences from popular culture through to Modernism and Post-Modernism, working with equal proficiency in acoustic and electro-acoustic mediums. His artistic thought is characterised by a desire to reflect and comment on contemporary culture, society and politics. Such an approach, while fully embracing technology, still requires the human element to remain a vital part of his compositional craft. Disregarding boundaries between ‘elitist’ and ‘populist’ influences, his work has found appeal nationally and internationally.
Peter's research focuses on using voice patterns as a source material for acoustic/electro-acoustic composition. This is an extension of twentieth-century compositional methods and has lead to the production of compositions ranging from small acoustic pieces to multi-channel electro-acoustic works combined with computer generated animation. It has also produced a range of software used for the creation of material, both acoustic and electro-acoustic, which forms a significant part of Peter's work.
